Adding a Payment Method

A payment method is required to activate Studio Playground, API access, and other features. New users add a payment method during onboarding; existing users can update theirs from the Billing page.
  1. Navigate to the Studio Billing page
  2. Go to the Payment Methods tab
  3. Click Add payment method
  4. Enter your credit card details
  5. Save your changes
Adding a payment method activates your Pay-as-you-go plan, giving you immediate Studio Playground and API access.
Once your payment method is added, you can start using the API and monitoring your usage in the API Usage dashboard.

Upgrading to Pro

Pay-as-you-go users can upgrade to the Pro plan directly from the Studio — no sales call required. Where to find the upgrade option:
  • Billing dashboard (/billing): A highlighted card reads “Upgrade to Pro — $25/mo + usage. Unlock Data Engine, Content Library, and higher spend limits up to $800/month.”
  • Plans page (/plans): The full pricing table has a green “Upgrade to Pro” button in the Pro column.
What happens when you upgrade: The upgrade is instant and handled automatically:
  1. Any outstanding Pay-as-you-go usage for the current week is settled immediately
  2. Your weekly PAYG subscription is canceled
  3. A monthly Pro subscription is created
  4. Your account gains access to Data Engine, Content Library, and a new $800/month spend cap
No page reload is needed — the Studio UI refreshes automatically after the upgrade completes.
What unlocks after upgrading:
  • Data Engine — Ingest, process, and retrieve your own content for grounded AI responses
  • Content Library — Organize and manage curated knowledge for use across the platform
  • Higher spend cap — $800 per month instead of $100 per week
  • Priority support — Faster response times from the Gloo team

Setting Spend Limits

Both Pay-as-you-go and Pro accounts have spend limits to help you control costs. You can adjust your limit at any time from the Billing page — no support ticket required.

Pay-as-you-go

Default Limit: $100/week Maximum Limit: $100/week How to Modify:
  1. Go to the Studio Billing page
  2. Click Usage Limits
  3. Adjust your weekly limit (up to $100)
  4. Save your changes
When you reach your weekly spend limit, API access will be paused until the limit resets the following week. Plan accordingly for production applications.

Pro

Default Limit: $800/month Maximum Limit: $800/month How to Modify:
  1. Go to the Studio Billing page
  2. Click Usage Limits
  3. Adjust your monthly limit (up to $800)
  4. Save your changes
When you reach your monthly spend limit, API access will be paused until the next billing period or until you contact support to raise your cap.
Enterprise accounts manage spend limits through service agreements, not the Studio UI. Contact your account manager to adjust limits.

Managing Invoices (Enterprise)

Enterprise accounts receive monthly invoices based on their service agreement. Invoices include:
  • API usage (requests and tokens)
  • Feature access (Data Engine, Search, Item APIs)
  • Any custom services or add-ons
Invoices are sent to your designated billing contact at the end of each billing period. For questions about your invoice, contact your account manager.
Enterprise invoices include detailed usage breakdowns. You can also monitor real-time usage in the API Usage dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I exceed my spend limit? For Pay-as-you-go accounts, API access is paused when you reach your weekly limit and resumes automatically the following week. For Pro accounts, access is paused at the monthly cap and resumes at the start of the next billing period (or sooner if you contact support to raise your cap). You’ll receive notifications as you approach your limit. Can I change my plan?
  • Pay-as-you-go to Pro: Upgrade self-serve from the Studio Billing page or the Plans page
  • Pay-as-you-go or Pro to Enterprise: Contact sales to upgrade
  • Downgrade: Contact support to discuss your options
When does my Pro plan become active? If you’re already on Pay-as-you-go and upgrade to Pro, the switch is instant — your existing payment method carries over with no interruption. If you’re setting up Pro for the first time, your account stays in a pending state until your first invoice is paid, then activates automatically. With a credit card this usually completes within an hour; if you pay by bank account, allow 1–2 business days if your bank requires verification. While pending, you can finish setting up your account, but API access and credentials turn on once that first payment is confirmed. How do I cancel my Pay-as-you-go plan? Removing your payment method from the Studio Billing page will deactivate your Pay-as-you-go plan. You’ll lose access to the Studio Playground and API, and your account will return to a limited browse-only state until a payment method is added again. What payment methods are accepted? We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, and U.S. bank accounts (ACH) for Pay-as-you-go and Pro accounts. Enterprise accounts are invoiced monthly and can arrange payment terms with our billing team. Can I pay with my bank account (ACH)? Yes. When you add a U.S. bank account, you can either connect it instantly by signing in to your bank, or verify it manually with two small deposits. Instant connections are ready to use right away. Manual (micro-deposit) verification takes 1–2 business days — your account stays pending until you confirm the deposit amounts, after which billing continues as normal.
